Overview
The current society is a mediated society. On the one hand, mass communication itself has become a very important “small world” in the whole social system, and on the other hand, the continuous interactions between mass media and other sub-systems of the society have been constructing a more and more complicated media society. The media society requires media criticism, a criticism on the basis of both social and academic consciences.
As far as media criticism is concerned, up to now, there has not been a regular academic platform which is based on both international perspectives in theory and domestic experiences in practice. In view of this situation, the School of Journalism & Communication of
The media criticism forum is to be held annually. The mission of the forum is “focusing on media society, developing criticism spirit.”
Conference Themes/ Issues
The 2007 media criticism forum consists of two parts: topic speech and sessions.
Topic speech: A topic speech entitled “Media Society and Criticism Spirit” will be made by some influential scholars at home and abroad in the field of media criticism.
Sessions: The papers focusing on the following aspects will be welcomed. The authors can freely choose all kinds of concrete topics of their own interests.
1. Fundamental theoretical problems in the development of media criticism as a discipline in
2. Historical evolution of media criticism, classic works by famous media critics, as well as reflections on media criticism.
3. Current situation, resources, problems and strategies of contemporary media criticism at home and abroad.
4. Case studies of typical media performances at home and abroad.
Note: recommended panels and projects are welcomed.
Submission
The forum invites scholars to submit papers that are relevant to the forum themes/ issues. Submission period: 1 July 2007 to 31 July 2007.
Submissions must be sent via email to the SJC at mcf.jnu@163.com. All submissions go through blind peer reviews. Authors whose papers are accepted will be notified no later than early September 2007. Please note that papers already published in any form are not accepted. Excellent papers will be published in a conference volume.
